Therefore
the first books that were published in our land were
published in indigenous language although some works were
also dictated in Castilian for a non- indigenous public.
Only where the white population was populated some
editor could expose to sale works in Castilian as it was
the case of México.
Regarding
this brother country, we can say that their
editorial industry worked in America so early as in the year
1532, in a modest shop to whose front was a certain Esteban
Martin.
This printer Esteban Martin arrived to America lands
together with the great expedition to the Río de la Plata
directed by Don Pedro of Mendoza. There, figures in
the registration of the second book from “Passengers
to Indies” . Of the house of recruiting of Seville such
Esteban Martin , a printer, son of Juan de Bociria and
of Margarita Netallera, neighbors of Granada going to the Río
de la Plata . But such printer didn’t succeed in
arriving at the Río de la Plata, but he stayed
in México. There, he published the spiritual
Escalade, The Doctrine of Toribio of Motolinia and the
Mexican Catechism of Juan of Rivas.
We
can understand why this first editor denied to stablish
in The Rio de la Plata territory, since those people
who could advise him during that trip, of course they
put it in knowledge about the enormous difference of
prosperity between the populous colonies of Mexico and the
incipient and poor ones of the Río de la Plata.
We
are certain that one of the big difficulties of these
American “gutenbergs” was the paper shortage that braked
the edition of many works.
Since this point,
the printings were multiple in Mexico. ; and
works as the magnitude of the Brief “Treaty of Medicine”
for Agustin Farfán (1592) The speculative Physics of Alonso
de Veracruz (1557) The Roman Missal (1561) The Dialectical
of Aristotle (1554) and the music of the Grauduale in 1571 .
were published.
